Maggie Valley Fireworks: July 4, 2020

by | Jun 25, 2020 | Town News

July 4th 2020 is going to look different in Maggie Valley. Unfortunately, the Town will not be hosting its traditional Backyard 4th Celebration at the Festival Grounds based upon the state’s prohibition on mass gatherings. This annual event has allowed holiday revelers the opportunity to treat Maggie Valley’s “backyard” as their own for the past seven years.

However, the Town of Maggie Valley is steadfast in its commitment to providing our community with a fantastic fireworks display – the same fireworks display that has amazed crowds year in and year out. The decision to hold fireworks in Maggie Valley was simple; this greatest American holiday allows us the opportunity, regardless of circumstances, to honor our beloved nation’s most sacred values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Those visiting for the day will be welcomed to Town by a number of unique restaurants and shops, looking forward to making this Independence Day a memorable one. We invite you to enjoy all that our town has to offer, including our four creekfront parks. Due to state regulations guests should not expect a special events atmosphere featuring live music or mobile souvenir or food vendors.

The Town encourages our citizens and visitors to watch the fireworks from locations where they can enjoy the show while maintaining the recommended social distance requirements. Unlike years past, the Festival Grounds gates will be closed and the Grounds will not be available for fireworks viewing.  For our residents, we suggest staying at home and watching the fireworks from your deck, patio or yard. For those enjoying July 4th in one of our many lodging venues, try viewing the fireworks from your parking lot or balcony. Those hoping to watch the fireworks from the Town’s sidewalk system or public parking areas may do so, but space will be limited due to the need for appropriate social distancing.

Again, this year’s July 4th Fireworks experience is going to be very different than in years past; because of social distancing, your pre-firework routine may be different or you may not be able to see the fireworks as clearly as you are accustomed to.  There is little doubt that life will be back to normal in 2021 meaning you can expect Maggie Valley’s Backyard 4th will also be returning to normal on Sunday July 4, 2021. Until then, for those of you who will miss seeing our fireworks display but can still hear it in the distance, remember this – the sound you hear is the sound of freedom!

Happy 224th Birthday America!
