Haywood Water Water – Big Sweep September 14th, 2024 Big Sweep is an annual County-wide cleanup event that removes tons of trash from local waterways and roadways. Volunteers should be prepared to work in the sun, get a little dirty, and possibly wet. Please wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and bring plenty of water. Trash bags, grabbers, and gloves will be provided. Volunteers will meet at the town hall (3987 Soco Road) at 9:00 am. Cleanup time, about an hour and a half. Emphasis of the work is clerical and administrative support functions for Town Manager, as well as other departments as necessary and required. Our community gets its name from Maggie Mae Setzer. Her father, John “Jack” Sidney Setzer founded the area’s first post office and it was named after one of his daughters. Each summer, Setzer descendants come from all over the country for a large family reunion in the historic valley.
