Winter Storm Update: Road Conditions and Trash Collection

The Town of Maggie Valley is still experiencing the negative effects produced by Winter Storm Diego between Saturday December 8 and Sunday December 9. These negative effects prompted Mayor Saralyn Price to declare a State of Emergency on December 9, which remains in effect. Our Public Works Crews have been tirelessly working to improve road conditions throughout Town since Saturday. The Town provides snow and ice removal on approximately 7 miles of Town Maintained Streets and 8 miles of Private Streets in addition to helping NCDOT remove snow and ice on their roadways. Depending on your location in Maggie Valley you could have received anywhere from 14-18 inches. This amount of snowfall produced by one event is very atypical for our Town, considering that the Town receives on average 13 inches of snow per winter season. Our Public Works Department takes great pride in providing you with timely and effective snow removal services. Unfortunately we have not been able to provide these services as quickly or effectively as we would have liked. Even as this letter is being posted to the Town’s website, crews are continuously working to improve road conditions to increase mobility throughout town. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. As snow melts and refreezes overnight be careful of hazardous driving conditions associated with black ice. For those of you who are interested, check here for the Town’s Snow and Ice Removal Policy.  This document provides valuable information for residents as to which roads will be scraped, the method of snow removal and helpful tips that you can follow to help our crews work more efficiently
