Aldermen Agenda Workshop and Meeting Tuesday, May 5

The Town of Maggie Valley Board of Aldermen will be conducting their regularly scheduled Agenda Setting- Monthly Work Session on Tuesday May 5th at 9:30am. This meeting of the Board will be “in person” and will take place in the Maggie Valley Pavilion (adjacent to Town Hall). The decision to have the meeting in the pavilion is based upon the need to provide adequate social distancing and safe public interaction.  The meeting will not be available on any virtual meeting platform such as Zoom or Google Hangouts. There will be one action item on the agenda for the Board’s consideration at this meeting Consideration for Approval: Expending Economic Development Funds to create a COVID 19 related Maggie Valley Marketing Campaign The remainder of the meeting will focus on typical agenda setting – work session discussion items. Advice to the Faith Community

Advice to the faith communities of Haywood County From: Frank G. Queen, Haywood County Attorney Date: 17 April 2020 The Haywood County Health Department, the Emergency Management Services Office and the leaders of county government have asked me to give advice to the faith communities concerning gatherings during the current state of emergency.  All of us recognize the vital importance of our churches and faith communities in supporting us when we are facing the difficulties of our lives. The novel coronavirus is an invisible, real, and frightening part of our world now. We need the support of those who know and love us more than ever.  Gathering at worship services, though, presents an opportunity for the virus to spread, unseen and dangerous, between us. How can we preserve our faith communities if gathering risks our health? First, we can acknowledge that we have a choice. We can ignore the threat, we can gather without protection, and we can risk our own lives and the lives of our community members when we do.  Our other choice is to gather with protection and in new ways and defeat the virus’s spread.  It is my advice, and the advice of our health department, that where family members are in separate vehicles, and where there is no physical contact between people in the different vehicles (that is, no touching, hugging, hand-shaking, no children running outside from vehicle to vehicle and the like), and where the vehicles are parked so that a six-foot physical distance is maintained between open windows, and where there is no physical contact between those conducting the service and those attending

Golden LEAF deploys $15M in funding to launch NC COVID-19 Rapid Recovery Loan Program

Golden LEAF deploys $15M in funding to launch NC COVID-19 Rapid Recovery Loan Program ROCKY MOUNT, NC – (March 24, 2020) – The Golden LEAF Foundation announces $15 million in funding to launch a rapid recovery loan program in response to economic losses related to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Golden LEAF funding will support the NC COVID-19 Rapid Recovery Loan Program by enabling loans to be made to eligible businesses for up to $50,000 with zero interest and no payments for six months. If not repaid in six months, the loan will automatically convert to a term loan. The NC COVID-19 Rapid Recovery Loan Program (https://ncrapidrecovery.org/) is managed by the NC Rural Center, a statewide nonprofit that has been supporting small business owners for more than 30 years. The Rural Center will lead a broad coalition of nonprofit lending partners to directly assist small business owners. Disaster Declaration to Support Small Businesses

U.S. Small Business Administration Grants Governor Cooper’s Request for Disaster Declaration to Support Small Businesses Raleigh Mar 19, 2020 The U.S. Small Business Administration granted Governor Roy Cooper’s request for a disaster declaration for small businesses that are suffering economic losses due to the new Coronavirus, COVID-19. “Many small businesses are desperate right now and this SBA approval will help,” said Governor Cooper. “Even more is needed and we will continue to push for additional assistance while we work to protect the health of North Carolinians.” At the Governor’s request, the SBA granted a disaster declaration to small businesses across the state, allowing affected businesses to apply for low interest SBA disaster loans. Businesses and individuals may obtain information and loan applications by calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 or 1-800-877-8339 for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, or by emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.
